what’s in their cart?
If you're new here, you may want to subscribe to my RSS feed. Thanks for visiting!
I have this habit of checking out what’s in other people’s shopping carts as I stand in line at checkout. Okay, first a disclaimer, I’m not a naturally nosy person and most times, I could care less what other people buy. But somehow standing in line doesn’t strike me as the most productive aspect of shopping. So can you blame me when my eyes start to wander and my nose starts sniffing out (discreetly, of course) shopping baskets nearby? That’s not necessarily a bad thing though. Sometimes looking into their carts, I’m reminded of things I have to buy. Or I see something cute that I’m interested to buy. Or as in what happens all the time, I see them buying multiples of the same item and it prompts me to wonder if that item may be on sale. Recently the lady in front of me was heaping on toothpaste like there’s no tomorrow. Suspecting that toothpaste may be on sale, I dash over to the toothpaste section. True enough, it was on sale! Yay! It was my turn to heap on toothpaste like there’s no tomorrow.

going coconuts!
When the weather is hot, there’s nothing like a fresh coconut to cool you down. It’s one of my all-time favorite drinks.
Yes, by now, you can clearly tell that I love to drink though it’s unlikely I’ll ever get drunk on coconut juice, green tea or grass jelly (hick!).
I think this one here in the picture is nicknamed ’snowball coconut’, well, for obvious reasons.
The meat’s been carved out of the hard husky shell in one whole piece (takes quite an expert to do that) and plopped nicely in this container with the juice poured in.
Kinda the clean-cut way of packaging but obviously that’s taking away the novelty of drinking out of a whole fresh coconut.
I sometimes do buy the whole ones with a hole hacked at the top to insert a straw. But it seems this coconut came from some exotic place, not locally grown, so I just wanted to see if it tasted any different. Not.
But I’m somewhat of a coconut myself
so I’m not picky.

weekend 2 of fashion on 1
Yep, we were there from Friday. Steev finally got his ‘Photographer’ tag which he proudly hung around his neck and strutted around. Plus he got the coveted spot on the black box with all the other seasoned cameramen.
No, this time I didn’t have to wink at any of them because Steev had the tag! I’m trying to kick the habit of winking at strange men just to get my son a better spot, ya know! He’s got to learn to find his own way.
The showcase Friday night was young local designers who are trying to make the fashion scene.
Great effort considering that some of them looked barely 10! No, I’m sure they were definitely not 10, they’re probably just short for their age.
Lots of designs, some of them wearable, some not. You can try to convince me to wear curtains by draping them on sexy models, but I still wouldn’t wear them so  !
The show lasted over 2 hours by which time I was dead beat. We, all of our legs felt crumbly but we managed to stumble to the car in time for a quick exit. What a night!

lost and found
It was only after we got home that Steev realized he’d left his camera bag at the mall. With the huge crowd that was there last night, we honestly didn’t think we’d be able to find the bag.
Anyone could’ve picked it up and walked away with it thinking there would be expensive equipment in there. Luckily there was nothing much in the bag.
Steev had taken out all his lenses and cards and stuffed them into the numerous pockets in his cargo pants. There was some money in it though and a couple of small things. It wasn’t a big deal but you know how you start using something and it grows on you.
At any rate, I decided to report it to Lost and Found just in case. A couple of days later, I got a call from the mall saying they’d found a black bag, but they weren’t sure if it was ours and could we please come in and have a look?
Surprisingly it turned out to be Steev’s bag with everything intact! We were thrilled and couldn’t thank the staff enough.
Tip: If you lose something at the mall, file a report with Lost and Found. You never know, it might just turn up your missing item!

weekend 1 of fashion on 1
The opening event at Fashion On 1 was slated to start at about 7:00p. We got there an hour early to grab some dinner before the show.
We realized there were lots of people who’d gotten there even earlier, especially the cameramen who were milling around trying to find a good vantage spot.
Steev tried to get himself up on the black box with the media crowd. But we were told the black box (the choice spot on a raised platform right at the end of the runway) was strictly for the press.
S
igh! The poor guy was disappointed. He’s always thought of himself as something of a professional, never mind that he’s barely 16!
At any rate, he managed to inch forward little by little while pretending to chat up the other photographers. Neat trick!
A couple of them did fall for his charm (after I winked at them!) and allowed him to park himself just behind the black box! Go, Steev!!
The show was hosted by one of the Channel V veejays (some cool dude whose name I didn’t catch and I don’t watch Channel V either, so he shall remain nameless!).
It featured a great opening drums performance. Very upbeat, somewhat island-ish in flavor. I absolutely loved it. Brands featured were mostly casual wear for the young and trendy like Body Glove (shown here), Zero Hour, Forever 21.

fashion on 1 is here
We’ve just received a snail mail brochure about a Fashion Extravanganza happening at 1 Utama. The girls and I are obviously very excited at the prospect.
It’s going to be a two-weekend event with lots of exciting stuff on the agenda. Woot! You can almost count on us being there. Would we even think to miss something like this?
Nah!
We will be reporting ‘live’ (well, almost) from the event, so stay tuned.
