body shop sale

I was walking past the Body Shop this morning and popped in when I saw they’re having a sale. I’m pretty behind in terms of what’s going on these few weeks. Too busy with work so no time to keep track of sales.

I thought I’d grab a tube of their Jojoba Facial Scrub. I need a spare as I’m running low. Steev has been helping himself to it, it seems (he’s so vain).

The sales promoter told me they’ve discontinued the range. Hmm, I guess it’s time to try something new then.

I’m going to miss the Jojoba though. The grains are just the right size and it leaves your face really smooth after a scrub.

I didn’t have time to browse today. I had to rush off to buy lunch for my hungry brood. So I promised her I’d be back.

But hey, if you’re keen on grabbing a few items yourself, their sale is on thru June 10 with up to 70% off on certain items.

don’t fear the truth

Posted by clair on blog buddies

How do you like my blog header? Cool, ain’t you? Don’t you just love the way the colors come together?

My blog buddy, Zorn, designed it for me in exchange for a link on this humble blog of mine. Zorn himself has a blog over at Don’t Fear the Truth which makes for some very interesting reading.

But what you might like to know is that he’s offering free graphics in his ‘Logo for Links‘ campaign in exchange for a link to his blog.

It’s not an offer you come across every day so I took it up in an instant. I’m not sure how long his offer is on for but go check it out if you’re keen.

calculator exchange

Posted by clair on gadgets & electronics, talk shop

Steev lost his scientific calculator at school. Apparently someone decided to play a prank on him and nicked it while he was at recess. Only problem was whoever took it never returned it.

He bought a new one from his tutor who happened to know someone who was selling it at a discount. Turned out to be a solar calculator which wouldn’t work in his classroom.

So he took it back to exchange for a battery-driven one. Turned out it wasn’t functioning right. To cut a long story short, he exchanged it about 4 times and finally he has one that’s “perfect”.

Talk about great customer service ;) .

do you check your grocery bills?

Posted by clair on food & drink, tips & ideas

Do you ever check the prices on your grocery bill after you pay? If you don’t, you’re not the only one. I never used to either.

Until I noticed that I was being overcharged here and there. You know how, when the clerk swipes your items so quickly across the barcode reader you hardly have time to see the prices flash across the display screen.

Okay, to be fair, how many people actually do bother looking at the display in the first place?

We take these things so much for granted we figure anything that’s electronically programmed (as opposed to being manually entered) must be correct.

Either that or we’re just too darned busy packing our own groceries (at self-service stores) to notice. As long as we can hear the beep of the reader when our things go through, we reckon the correct price is going through also.

After all, machines don’t make mistakes. Ah, but we forget that those prices were entered into the machine by people. At stores that hold frequent promotions, there’s an even higher chance of errors in pricing.

I read somewhere that grocery chains make millions in excess revenue a year just overcharging a customer by a few cents. Multiply that by the volume of customers and goods that go through checkout and it shouldn’t be that hard to imagine.

Something I do now: check my bill diligently before I leave the store. Things are expensive enough as they are without me needlessly paying more than I should be.

mango-mania

Posted by clair on food & drink

Woo-hoo, it’s mango season again! Needless to say, I’m finding every excuse to gobble mango.

I usually eat it fresh and chilled. But really there are countless ways that you can incorporate it into your menu.

Mango Smoothie is a refreshing perk-me-up after a long, tiring workout at the gym.

Simply cut the mango into chunks, add in a cup of plain yoghurt and blend to a thick pulp.

Pour into a glass and stick it into the freezer while you’re in the shower.

By the time you get out, you’ll have a long cool glass of chilled mango smoothie waiting for you. Yummm.

fashion in motion

Posted by clair on events, fashion & style

Wouldn’t you have guessed it! Steev dragged us to another fashion shoot yesterday, this time at MidValley. I guess it’s their turn at a fashion week.

The crowds were smaller, the photofanatics were fewer in number, so we managed to park ourselves right up front. When the show started, we were in for a surprise.

Break dancers? A half dozen energetic teens who clearly enjoyed twirling and hurling. I was impressed, but mostly concerned they might break their necks or worse yet, drill holes into the runway with their heads.

On the contrary, the models could’ve been a little more energetic. They seemed to lack pride in their jobs or maybe they were in training mode still.

Or maybe we were starving and just plain couldn’t wait for the show to end to go grab our pizza  .
