selecting a clock that won’t drive you up the wall

Posted by clair on tips & ideas

We’ve been living without wall clocks for a while now. I’ve been shopping around for two new wall clocks. Sometimes the simplest things are the hardest to buy.

I wanted a simple design with big bold lettering. Enough of the ornate ones with fine, squiggly lettering that are a torture to read when you’re in a hurry.

One thing I learnt about buying new clocks is that you should take it out and put in a battery to try. I didn’t. I opened it up only after I got home. Steev stuffed in the batteries and the clock started to tick like crazy.

Yes, the ticking is loud! You can hear it from a mile. That’s so irritating! Already time passes so fast, the last thing you need is to be reminded with every tick! Duh! My wall clock is driving me up the wall.

what, no free gift as advertised?

Posted by clair on talk shop

Steev bought some workbooks this morning. I won’t mention which bookstore. Let’s just say it’s a popular one.

He’s just discovered there was a flyer in his bag of books which says that if we purchase two workbooks or more, members will get a free testpad.

Well, guess what? I showed the cashier my card but she waved it away, and she never gave us our gift. See, that’s what I really hate about some stores.

They never make good on their promises in the hopes the customer won’t notice until it’s too late. Frankly, is that any way to do business?

impractical handbags

Posted by clair on fashion & style

I don’t like carrying handbags. I think they’re a bother. But when I do carry a handbag, it has to be practical, not just look pretty.

Yet there are lots of handbags out there that are purely fashion minus the function. I found these on the net. See if you agree with my idea of impractical.

Cute, real cute! But what’s with the tube? Unless you’re planning to carry a rolled-up newspaper and precious little else.

Clean cut, black (I love black), nice but awfully flat. Do they honestly expect you to stack your wallet on top of your handphone on top of your powder pack on top of …? And when you need something, you have to throw everything else out.

These cuties are definitely not for me. Nice but I need something more functional. How’s about you?

too tired to shop

Posted by clair on talk shop

I popped into Zara today just for a look-see. They’re having some sort of clearance sales with some items up to 70% off. I’ve bought stuff from them in the past and I’ve loved what I bought.

I looked around the store today and of course, they have a much wider selection now. Pity I wasn’t in the mood to shop. I was tired and just wanted to get home and hang up my feet.

freebie paradise

Posted by clair on , freebies

Who doesn’t love a freebies? I’d be lying if I said I didn’t, and I’m sure many of you would be too ;) . What if I told you I know a place where you can get not one freebie, not two freebies but an entire website bursting with freebies of every kind?

Interested? Come with me to ThatFreebieSite.com for Real Free Stuff. Right down the entire left sidebar on the front page of the site, you will see all the categories of freebies you can choose from.

If you’re a regular visitor (like I will be soon, heh!), you can see all the latest freebies listed right on the front page. Well, thank goodness it’s on the front page because I’d be just too excited to click through the pages otherwise.

My favorite is the magazine category. Magazines are so expensive here I just can’t afford them. No, really! I’m not sure though if they deliver to this part of the world. Wouldn’t it be great if they did?

Some freebies are easier to come by than others. For example, I’ve got more free t-shirts, pens and bags than I care to count.

But jewelry and ringtones are pretty rare and would be nice. I’m off to check out the site right now. You should too.

pet owners by proxy

Posted by clair on , sales & discounts, shopping places

The girls want a pet dog but I just don’t have the time or the inclination for that right now. In theory though, they are pet owners by proxy  .

I’ve set them up so that whenever they want to play with a pet, I just drop them off at my uncle’s and they have Moonbeam (my uncle’s pet dog) for a day. Brilliant!

The girls are really taking this seriously. They’ve signed up for the Big Paws Design newsletter which gives them a 10% discount when they shop online.

Apparently they’ve picked out some cute doggie accessories and even a dog gift for Moonbeam’s birthday. Every weekend, they’re having Moonbeam model for them so they can get some good shots to enter the online contest.

You know what, I’m just glad I’m not involved in any of this ;) .
