the throw-’em-off look
Posted in clair's closet, fashion & style
They say don’t judge a book by its cover. But I think that’s exactly how sales promoters judge us. I notice that I get approached fewer times by promoters if I dress like a slop.
Today I was wearing a loose hula shirt (that’s gone out of style back in the 1980’s, I reckon
), a pair of loose, cut-off jeans (they are genuine Levi’s no doubt but still!) and an old pair of hand-painted (by me) deck shoes with my hair tied back in an untidy pony-tail.
This is the look that throws promoters off, turning them on to better-dressed, more up-to-date individuals. On days when I’m tired and just want to be left alone and don’t care if anyone knows me, this is the look that works. It’s not failed on me yet so far.
