mooncakes galore

I was just out at the mall and there’s this festive atmosphere in the air again. This time, it’s the Mooncake Festival (or Lantern Festival) that coming up later this month.
I think it falls on September 23. I’m not really sure, I need to check the Lunar calendar. At any rate, the mooncakes have been on sale since two months ago. Yeah, that’s what I can’t understand but I guess that’s commercialization for you.
Well, by the time the Mooncake Festival actually rolls around later this month, everyone would be done eating their fill already. It’s great for the people who love this annual treat. It’s a shame I don’t eat mooncakes. I could maybe eat one teeny-weeny piece but that’s it. Guess it’s something I’ve never developed a taste for.
For those of us who’re buying boxes of mooncakes as gifts to the elders, it’s best to buy closer to the date. Hopefully those would be from a newer, fresher batch.
I notice the prices have gone up too this year. Probably it’s because the packaging has gotten very creative and sophisticated. Although I don’t eat mooncakes, I love checking out the lovely boxes they come in. I’ll try and get some photos up tomorrow.
