would you have your toddler on a leash?

We saw a toddler out shopping with his parents. What surprised my kids was that this little boy was on a leash and they were wondering why his parents are treating him like a puppy. Nothing wrong with that, I told them.
I had Steev on a leash too once or twice when he was little. Kids have a way of wandering off, attracted by all the colors and movement they see in the shopping mall.
But Steev has always been pretty good about holding our hands when we shopped so we only used the leash a couple of time when it was really crowded at the mall.
The leash is simply a safety device to prevent them from getting lost in the crowd. We can’t be sure what kind of monsters there are out there these days but what we read in the papers is enough to send shivers down any parent’s spine.
I know some elderly folks don’t approve of us treating our kids like animals on a leash. Better an animal than to be kidnapped by an animal ! Or at least that’s what I think.
