lipstick testers

Posted in health & beauty

One of the things that really irks me when buying lipstick is how to test the colors. See, the color of the lipstick is different on your lips than it looks. So you can’t just take the color at face value because depending on your skin color, the color of the lipstick will play out quite different.

I usually use the lipstick to draw a line on the back of my hand to see how the color looks on my skin. I’m not sure if that’s the best way to test it but this is the way I’ve always used, and the results are close enough.

Typically when I shop for beauty products, I don’t like the promoter hanging around me, giving me unsolicited advice and swaying me in my decision-making. I’d like to think I know which colors suit me and which ones I want. I sometimes think they recommend a color because they’re overstocked on that color and are trying to push it out.

The worst kind of promoter is the one that insists on having you wipe off your lipstick so she can paint your lips with the tester lipstick. Geez, what’s up with that? I absolutely will not allow her to use the tester on me. I mean, who knows how many people have tested it on their lips  . Yuck!
