grocery bags going green

I’m happy to see some grocery stores making an attempt to go green. Lately I’ve stepped up telling checkout clerks not to give me so many plastic bags. I’m not sure why they feel like they need to split up your purchases into several bags when clearly one bag will do the job.
I love Jusco’s idea best because it doesn’t make me feel guilty when I ask them to split up the heavier items. Their plastic bags are biodegradable. You’ll notice that after you keep them for a while, they start to disintegrate. Perfect! Maybe it’s a Japanese technology but I sure love it.
Tesco has started introducing their Bag for Life. You buy a bag for .99cents and you bring it with you when you shop there. When your bag wears out, you simply exchange it for a new one - free - for life.
Nice try but I find it a bit of a hassle having to bring the bags along everywhere I go. Given how busy we are, the tendency is to forget and then what do we do? Have to use plastic bags again
? So we’re back to square one.
- recycling plastic bags
- no problem finding a parking spot
- kids and plastic bags
- saving our planet one plastic bag at a time
- not a plastic bag
