I remember as a kid, it was typically at around this time of year when I would tag along with my folks to the goldsmith’s shop to look at, and perhaps buy some jewelry items to wear during Chinese New Year.
In those days before the popularity and abundance of costume jewelry choices, ‘real’ gold was the in-thing to wear on festive occasions. Now I think you have to be nuts to step outside wearing anything to attract unwanted attention.
The goldsmith’s shop seem pretty quiet. I’m not sure many people do go much any more. Maybe they’re stocking up gold bars instead, I don’t know. I’m no expert but maybe investing in gold and precious metals with companies like Monex Deposit Company may be a wiser alternative.
