for street football and hockey fans

Posted by clair on , shopping places, sports & fitness,

I always try to save when buying the kids’ stuff. They grow so fast so it’s pointless spending a fortune on stuff they’ll outgrow in a matter of months.

The new school year has just started less than a month ago and already my kids’ extracurricular activity schedule is full, meaning my chauffeuring schedule just got busier.

It’s great that kids get a chance to get outdoors and do some exercise after the long sedentary school holidays. I’m happy when the kids show an interest in a new sport.

But this year, both my girls decided to opt for badminton. Many of my friends have sons who are football nuts. If your kids are into football and you’re looking for a good place to buy gear for them, go check out the Soccer Balls and other accessories at SoccerGoalzInc.com.

soccer goalsThey have some really neat stuff for football and hockey fans who love to play street soccer or hockey. Look at this portable football goal which you can carry around and set up anywhere.

I bet you the kids will love playing at a different venue every time. And just in case you have a sports enthusiast’s birthday coming up, you can check out the gift ideas there too.

nothing wrong with sharing a car?

Posted by clair on , travel & transport,

One of my girl friends is sharing a car with her son. So what’s the worst that could happen with that? you say. Frankly, I thought nothing of it … until she came roaring up my street to pick me up for breakfast.

I mean, I could hear her coming for miles, only I never expected it to be her until I peered closely through her car window. OMG, it can’t be!

So what’s the worst that could happen when you share a car with a 21-year-old? You have something that vaguely resembles a vehicle with car spoilers, a booming sound system and modified exhausts that vrooooom like you were on a race track. Duh! He’d obviously been shopping for stuff she’s never even heard of.

do you know the way to Las Vegas?

Posted by clair on , travel & transport,

I was looking at some old photos I took in Las Vegas and wishing I could make a trip there. The best time to go would probably be spring or fall.

I’ve been there twice, both times at the height of summer and remember, that place is literally a desert with extreme summer temperatures. Whoa, it’s hot beyond description in the summer time.

I love the Vegas hotels though for their beautiful themes and their very affordable buffet spreads. Yes, food, lots of it and very inexpensive too. Are you planning any trips there?

Chinese New Year @ Pavilion

Posted by clair on events, shopping places

After seeing the beautiful singing tree at the Pavilion over the Christmas holidays, I have to say I was a tad disappointed in their Chinese New Year decor.

This is the rather plain setup that greeted us. We sat on the amphitheater’s stone steps and stared at this for a while to see if something would jump out at us. Nothing.

“Blooms of Opulence” is their grand name for a theme but somehow the blooms strike me as pretty small and insignificant, albeit gold signifying wealth.

They’re having some Chinese acrobatic performances, etc but we didn’t stick around long enough to catch them. I went to the information counter hoping to grab a schedule but there was only one person manning the counter and he was busy serving the long line in front of him. So?

fewer leftovers hopefully

Posted by clair on events, food & drink, talk shop

I don’t believe it myself but Chinese New Year is slightly over a week away and I haven’t even started my grocery runs which typically involve hauling back boxes of mandarin oranges and food gifts to be given away in the customary gift exchange.

My biggest problem every year is that I tend to overbuy. You know, that just-in-case mentality. The truth is there’s always plenty to go around because when someone brings a basket of food gifts, you just recycle what someone else brought earlier.

This year, I’m cutting down, buying on just a little extra, just to pacify that just-in-case mentality. I’m tired of having all those leftover cookies and crunchies that last for months after CNY. Seriously.

Visitors get served basically the same stuff at every house they visit. Typically The kids would’ve gotten so sick of eating them that by then, no one’s interested in eating any more.

Valentine’s Day gift ideas from Kohl

Posted by clair on , events, gift ideas,

Valentine’s Day this year comes the week right after Chinese New Year which falls on February 7. If you’re planning to celebrate, you’d better start thinking about what would make a gift that will score you some brownie points.

Maybe these Kohls coupons will give you some ideas and save you some money as well. They’re having a big clearance sale. What better excuse to buy yourself a Valentine’s Day gift! I do that sometimes, nothing wrong with that. You got to love yourself before you can love anyone else, right? So go for it.

Remember it’s the thought that counts so don’t worry about buying something that’s on sale. If she really loves you, she’ll be proud that you’re such a smart shopper.
