banking on phone spam

If you're a shopaholic like me, you'll want to subscribe to my RSS feed to find out about the latest in shopping.

While I was out shopping during the year-end holidays, I signed up for a credit card at the mall. It’s not like me to sign up on a whim like that. But I was in a good mood that day and the 101 discounts I apparently stand to get from my favorite stores sounded pretty attractive.

So I signed up. Probably against my better judgement because I typically do not like signing up for things that require me to divulge my personal information. Being that this is an offer by an international bank, I thought it would be okay.

But guess what? Within a couple of days of signing up, I started getting spam calls at both the contact phone numbers that I’d filled out on my credit card application form.

The first spam call came from an insurance company. The next morning, at 9am, another spam call came from a Chinese-speaking lady asking me to sign up for a cooking class. As of last week, I was still getting spam calls.

I happened to meet the promoter who signed me up and he confirmed that other applicants had also told him about getting spam calls. I don’t know who is selling us out here?

But if it’s this bank, which is based out of big cities like Hong Kong as well as Shanghai (I won’t mention the name of the bank), I would at least expect them to have some sort of privacy policy and not resort to selling applicants’ personal information.

The joke of it is that, a few weeks later, I got a rejection letter from said bank saying that my application has been rejected. No reasons given but I suspect that since they’ve got their hands on my personal information, why indeed would they even bother approving my application, eh  ?

This sucks! But you should name the company. Why should they be protected for their malicious practices?

Kontera Control keeps both Kontera ads where they belong. Now controls Adsense too!
