The lion dances have come to 1 Utama again. If it’s the one thing that gets me excited about Chinese New Year, it’s the lion dances. I love those agile feet, the loud drums and the colorful lions showing off their skills.

We managed to catch the opening lion dance, the first one that 1 Utama is staging to herald in the Year of the Rat. Woot! See here the drums have just started and the golden lion is getting ready to jump onto the 6-8 foot pillars.
To top it off, the Center Court decor is so very pretty. They have a floral theme and here you can see the huge floral ball in a golden cage in the photo above. It’s revolving slowly to a very lovely effect.

In this second picture, you can see the revolving floral ball on the other side of the stage and the flower drum lanterns hanging down from the ceiling.
This golden lion is lively and talented, deliberately so to bring a prosperous year of bold business moves and lively sales to 1 Utama. I’m no feng shui buff but I’m venturing an educated guess here.
Everything about Chinese New Year is centered around generating good vibes for prosperity, longevity and good fortune. Lion dances are meant to bring all of these things. So I should be on target here  .
At the end of the lion dances, the lions walk around and distribute mandarin oranges to the audience. Steev stretched out his hand and the lion rewarded him with a mandarin orange.
Yay, we just received our first “piece of gold” to kick off the new year! It’s sure to bring us good fortune and good health and wealth  . Let the festivities begin…
