It’s Chinese New Year’s Eve. We woke up this morning torn between going to the gym (for one more workout before we gobble down all that glorious food in the next few days), going shopping or staying home.

Well, since I’ve been very regular at the gym the past couple of months, I figure it won’t really matter if I do one less set of workouts. So I decided to pass up the gym.

The kids mentioned going to Midvalley Megamall and I thought, why not? It’s never a good idea to go to Midvalley on the eve of a public holiday because somehow everyone’s bent on going there too. So we decided to pass up Midvalley and head to Giant instead.

Don’t ask me why but I love to hoard mandarin oranges every year. I’ve already bought 4 boxes, my dad gave me a box and I still had to buy another 2 boxes. Um, that’s only 7 boxes altogether, way fewer than the 10 or 12 I usually buy.

I’ve learnt my lesson from previous years. Buying 10 boxes meant gobbling umpteen mandarins a day in a crazy race to finish all of them before they went bad, even after I’ve given away half the boxes. So now I’m wiser. I try to limit the urge to keep piling on the boxes.

This year’s mandarins are pretty sweet and very cheap, just the way I love ‘em. I’ll be giving a few boxes away as gifts. The word ‘mandarin oranges’ is kam or ‘gold’ in Chinese and they’re an auspicious festive gift to bear when visiting relatives and friends.

So that’s what I went to Giant to do today. Hoard more groceries to stuff into my two fridges which are already at bursting point!!!
