Happy Chinese New Year!

Woot, we’re done with our reunion dinner. We had a home-cooked meal, nice and fairly simple. Many families don’t cook their own reunion dinners these days. It’s a lot of work and washing out, and they prefer to just eat out.

In the old days, all the Chinese restaurants would be closed so everyone had to pretty much cook at home. But these days, restaurants do a booming business catering to the people who would rather spend the money than cook up a storm at home.

Tonight, Chinese restaurants will charge an arm and leg for food with auspicious names. The food normally doesn’t taste good because it’s all cooked in a hurry to meet the demands of the festive crowd.

To me, I don’t mind doing the cooking (but I still hate the washing up!). Well, now that we’re done eating, the only thing to do is to wish everyone who’s celebrating A Very Happy and Prosperous Chinese New Year in the Year of the Rat!! Gong Xi Fa Cai !
