my grandmother’s recycled bag

If you're a shopaholic like me, you'll want to subscribe to my RSS feed to find out about the latest in shopping.

You know I was just talking about those reusable bags that the malls are giving away as redemption gifts.

recycled bucket bagsWell, it looks like some smart cookie is recycling old gunny sacks, that are typically used for wholesale items like rice and grains, into these so-called ‘bucket’ bags.

This is not a new idea though. I remember seeing my grandmother using this when she would go to the market.

Let me tell you, these are some of the strongest and hardiest bags you’ll ever find.

The ones my grandmother used to use were made of jute (I don’t know about these ones here) and you can just keep heaping stuff in and they’ll never break  !

Wholesalers would discard these sacks after they were done repackaging the contents. I mean, you could literally pick one up from the heap and sew it into one of these pretty easily.

The next time I come across a pile of these discarded sacks and make my own trendy, reusable bag that will be the envy of all  .

They’re selling these at $24.95 at ReusableBags.com. Of course, these are much more colorful than the ones my grandmother had.
