do all acne products work for everyone?

Posted by clair on , health & beauty, talk shop,

With three teens in the house, you can’t blame me for always being on the lookout for new and better products in acne treatment and prevention.

I think prevention is more important so we should start them on facial hygiene early, get them eating the right kinds of food, etc.

I’ve gotten the kids to try two or three acne products so far. It’s not that I like switching between brands. Usually if something works, then I just keep using it.

But I read somewhere that different products have different effects on different skin types. So what works for one person may not have the same results on another.

So that’s why we’re still going on a trial and error basis which also explains why I’ve got a few bottles of half-used acne cream sitting there collecting dust  .

ever clawed through plastic wrapping?

Posted by clair on , talk shop,

A funny thing happened during Chinese New Year. My friend brought a basket of goodies for us and custom dictates that you must always reciprocate.

What I usually do is to remove the boxes of goodies that someone gives me and replace them with the goodies I want to give them in return.

But we got so busy talking and she was just about to leave when I realized I hadn’t repacked her basket with my goodies. She has two toddler sons and I remember there were a couple of boxes of cookies in a food hamper we’d received.

Her sons would love those cookies, I was thinking. The only problem was our food hamper hadn’t been unwrapped yet. It was a good thing one of her boys came bursting in right then to say he needed to “wee wee”.

While my friend was in the bathroom, I grabbed the hamper and hid in back part of my kitchen to unwrap it so I could get the boxes of cookies out and restock her basket in a flash.

In a flash? What was I thinking?

It took me forever to get the plastic wrapping off that darned hamper. Do you have any idea how difficult it is to get through the wrapping without a box cutter or scissors or even a knife?

Gosh, I wrecked my nails clawing through the plastic. I sure hope her boys appreciate the trouble Auntie Clair went through for those lovely cookies  .

not a plastic bag

It seems to be the trend now for malls to discourage the use of plastic bags by offering you a chance to redeem a fabric shopping bag for a minimum purchase of a certain amount.

Nice going. I really like the idea. I redeemed one recently from 1 Utama. Granted it’s not the best looking bag in the world but it serves its purpose.

The biggest challenge remains to remember to bring that fabric bag with me when I hit the mall. I seem to keep forgetting! and I’m sure everyone else does too.

cross-wearing sports gear

Posted by clair on fashion & style, sports & fitness

For the past week, I’ve been wearing a sleeveless golf shirt to my gym workouts. I’m not sure if anyone has noticed or if they’re laughing behind my back. At any rate, I don’t quite care.

The Nike golf shirts are what DH bought me from Japan. He’s always harbored secret hopes that there’s a golfer somewhere in me that’s just waiting for the right weather time to come bursting out.

Frankly there’s no way I’m going to go chasing down a small, little golf ball in the blazing sun. So the golf shirts will stay in the gym where it’s nice and cool.

So do I think it’s okay to cross-wear sports gear? Depends. I wouldn’t wear my tight gym shorts on the golf course unless I’m on some sort of crusade to stop everyone’s game, know what I mean? Muahahaha.

how to tell you’re a shopaholic

Posted by clair on talk shop

Okay, here’s an interesting question – how do you know you’re a shopaholic? We don’t have stamps on our foreheads, and not all of us have ’shop till you drop’ bumper stickers.

I think I’ve just found the answer to this question. I’m looking for a pair of jeans that I bought last year, never wore because I forgot all about it, and now I can’t find it anywhere.

So now you know  . This is the sort of thing that happens to me all the time. I once bought an entire set of Corelle Livingware at a sale. I hauled the box home and forgot about it.

I mean, I’m always buying stuff. How can I be expected to keep track, for cryin’ out loud  !!

When I went to Australia, I saw a set of Corelle that I really liked and decided that “since I haven’t got a set yet” (says who??), I bought it and hauled it home (nd that box weighs a ton, okay, so don’t ask me how I managed to get it on the flight!!) and promptly forgot about it too.

Some time later, I was at a sale and saw another Corelle set. Need I go on??

espadrille wedges

Posted by clair on fashion & style

espadrille wedgeI have to admit I’m a sucker for wedge heels. Love ‘em, love ‘em, love ‘em. Except I prefer to be a slop most days and can’t be bothered with walking tall and looking proper.

But some days, I do like to dress up when I go shopping. So wedges are perfect and I really am glad they’re back in fashion. They’re much better than trying to balance on skinny heels.

Don’t these look great? I found them at Victoria’s Secret and now I’m wondering if they ship internationally.
