rising food prices everywhere

I shudder when I read about rising food prices around the world, something that’s been all over the news last week. On top of that, there’s a global rice shortage caused by crop failure and global warming that’s going to continue affecting Asia badly.

It’s not something people like to talk about, I guess, but it’s still a major cause for concern when people can’t afford to feed their families, let alone think about things like education and medicare advantage.

Quite honestly, I’ve been noticing food prices creeping up and I’ve even blogged about it. Nothing much we can do about it except to find ways to get around it.

light up your home for less

Posted by clair on , home & garden,

murrayfeissSo let’s just saying you’re going to be remodeling, right? I’d say do everything at one go.

I have a friend who likes to remodel in bits and pieces. I don’t quite understand the rationale behind that except maybe to spread the cost over a period of time.

But just think of the hassle, I mean, the dust, noise and contractors trudging through your home. Not a particularly attractive thought.

If you do everything at once, it’s likely you could save quite a bit with discounts on your Murray Feiss lighting and whatever other fittings you’re planning to replace.

Actually the Lighting Showplace does have many great-looking and functional pieces at discounted prices. I love a good bargain, don’t you?

Steev @ Stylo KL Fashion Festival

Posted by clair on , fashion & style,

Steev had a ball at the Stylo KL Fashion Festival last weekend. He’s done a number of photo shoots before but not one as international as this. So naturally he was very excited and made it a point to be there on opening night as well as the second night.

He came home full of stories of how he practically rubbed shoulders with royalty and people in high places. Right, that’s my son  . I’m so thrilled for him though I wasn’t there myself.

In fact, he was so up close he was practically standing next to the organizing crew who was issuing command prompts to the models all night. He got a big kick out of being one of the photographers privileged to be there.

I would post some photos but he’s still in the midst of sorting them out. So maybe later.

exercise at home? er, not me!

Posted by clair on , sports & fitness,

Some of the so-called home exercise equipment seem more like jokes to me. You know, the belt-like ones that jiggle your tummy back into shape, or the bucking bronco (this is the funniest) chair that’s supposed to, well, I don’t know what it’s supposed to do except make you feel like you’re about to be thrown off a horse  .

I’ll be honest here. I’m not one to buy home exercise equipment even if they’re the proper gym equipment. At home, it’s just too easy for me to come up with an excuse not to exercise. Oh, I got just one more thing to finish up before I start. Hours would go by, then days, then weeks and still not one drop of sweat!

But if I’m at the gym, now that’s different. I’ve got two hours and no distractions (um, until a great physique comes along, that is), no interruptions, no excuses. At the end of two hours, it’s happy days. I know I’ve accomplished what I set out to do and I feel great.

stinky public restrooms

Posted by clair on , talk shop,

If I know I’m going to be out shopping, I always make sure I don’t drink too much water. Let’s just say it’s a habit that’s been cultivated from when I was young. Wierd, I know, the lengths some people like me would go to to avoid using dirty public restrooms.

Well, to be fair, it really depends on which part of town I’m going to be at and what sort of facilities they have in the vicinity. The restrooms at modern shopping malls aren’t as bad as they used to be except for those that are wet and stinky.

The ones at Condo Hotels are almost always good and those are pretty much the only ones I wouldn’t mind using. Otherwise, I would just try and keep it in till I get home  . I know many of my friends think I’m being obsessive-compulsive here but that’s just the way I am  .

such a klutz

Posted by clair on , talk shop,

I was out with the kids this morning to grab a quick breakfast at McDonald’s after a long, hard workout at the gym when … guess what?

I missed a step as I was going towards the door and I fell like a ton of bricks! Well, okay, I don’t weigh a ton but still, my knees took the fall and I sprained my wrist in the process.

My first thought was to get a Pennsylvania personal injury lawyer to sue the building owner for putting a step there. But on second thought, the step has always been there and I’ve never missed it before. I’m such a klutz and today I must’ve really been in Lala-land.
