what makes a good gift?

Although I love to shop, one of the things that really has me stumped is looking for gift ideas. You know the problem of figuring out something that you think the person will like or have a use for.
Then again, you want that something ’special’ that’s fairly unusual, not something you can find everywhere. A rare coin, for example, would be pretty unusual if it’s within your budget. It’s not only a good investment for a loved one but it’s also one that can be handed down for generations.
The question I often ask myself is ‘will I be thrilled to get this for a gift?’. And yes, I would like something that’s unusual, practical yet beautiful. Does such a thing even exist.
