food minus the garnishing

I’ve been reading in the news about how rising food prices are causing riots and fighting in some places around the world. It’s pretty scary seeing as how this sort of thing could potentially affect all of us, no matter where we’re at.

Over lunch on the weekend, a cousin of mine was complaining about the prices of hawker (street) food going up all the time.

A pack of chicken rice that used to come with sliced cucumbers and garnished with spring onion and cilantro now comes with probably one or two slices of cucumbers and no garnishing.

In fact, a lot of times, we hardly notice it at all but the portions of eat-out food are shrinking or cheaper alternatives are being used as substitutes.
