When it comes to makeup and hairdos, my niece is the authority in the family. Heck, she’s been at it since she was a toddler playing pretend. So it’s not surprising she has finally decided on her calling in life and that’s to be, what she calls, a beauty expert.

She’ll be starting a course at the cosmetology school in Missouri soon. Pretty exciting, eh? I just know she’s going to make the family proud seeing as this is something she really loves. As for this aunt, I’m just looking forward to the free beauty advice and treatments she’s going to dish out !

Hollywood fashion for mere minions

I don’t generally spend a lot of time reading up on Hollywood fashion and what the celebrities are wearing at any point in time. It’s interesting and I really wish I had more time to do that though I do make it a point to surf around and check around occasionally.

Surprisingly some of the styles flaunted by Hollywood’s divas are quite wearable. I used to think, bah, that’s fashion only for the rich and famous and it’s unlikely that I would ever walk out in any of those clothes.

Not true. The times we see them dressed up to the nines in Armani’s and Gucci’s are when they attend formal events like award dinners or movie premiers. But as I’ve found out from surfing around and getting a general idea of what stars wear on a daily basis, they’re actually pretty simple, casual garb.

For mere minions like us who can’t afford to splurge thousands of dollars on a pair of shoes or a purse, there’s always the ‘designer wear for less’ stores where we can get very similar designs at a fraction of the cost.

I watched a clip on Today where they had two models wearing similar styles and it wasn’t easy for someone to distinguish who was wearing the designer brand and who was wearing the less expensive outfit which is often a mix and match of outfits from different stores.

So why not? I mean, if we fancy that particular style and it’s available to us at a price we can afford, I say go for it! Indeed all it is is the inspiration that the celebrity’s style sets for us. Personally I wouldn’t imitate a celebrity’s style to a T. I tend to want to pick out the best features and put together an outfit myself.

Have you noticed how much it costs to get a new pair of prescription glasses fitted? I was at my regular optician’s and decided to browse the hundreds of frames while waiting for him to get back from lunch. There were a couple of pairs I liked but when I heard how much they would cost me, I instantly decided I didn’t like them after all !

Alright, first you have the medical professionals going high tech with pocket PCs and what not, and now it seems they’re into high fashion too. I met a cousin over the weekend who recently graduated as a doctor. Yes, she’s the bold and brainy among us!

She had a whole bunch of us mere minions gathered around her as she mesmerized us with stories of her course and now her new job. She showed us photos of her working her rounds and treating patients. Nothing unusual about that. But what really surprised us was that her koi uniforms are brightly colored in chic prints and quite frankly, if she hadn’t told us, none of us would ever have known she’s a doctor!

Yep, apparently, medical professionals have turned fashionable these days with their brightly colored koi scrubs. Even the koi scrub pants are just like what you would wear to lunch with a girl friend, not to a medical job!

It impressed the heck out of us. If you’re a medical professional, you should seriously check out the Scrubs and Beyond website which is where she and her colleagues order their unconventional attire which I dare say would brighten up anyone’s day!

one celeb and his wierd fashion sense

I’m not sure how often celebs or rock bands, to be more precise, go shopping or where indeed they do their shopping but sometimes they just wear the lamest outfits.

Like there’s this guitarist in a certain up and coming rock band (we won’t mention names here ) who loves to wear this tuxedo vest on stage. It makes him look like a waiter, not the hot guitarist he is, know what I mean? But obviously to him, that tux is a treasured item in his wardrobe as he seems to wear it ever so often.

I know, I know, one man’s fashion is another man’s poison, right? Still! I think he has a pretty odd fashion sense. I’m guessing he needs a fashion consultant maybe? Just sayin’.
