a little effort can save you money

Posted by clair on finance & money, save money, tips & ideas,

Like it or not, a car gets us places and for those of us with families, owning a car has become a necessary expense. Luckily there’s now the convenience of being able to get cheap auto insurance quotes online from the comfort of our own home.

All it takes is a little effort on our part to surf around a little bit and compare rates. In fact, some of the better insurance sites will provide auto insurance comparisons between their own and their competitors’ rates, which makes it even easier for us to compare since everything is on one page.

The problem though is that most times, we tend to stick with the same insurance company and it doesn’t strike us that there may be cheaper options out there that could save us money. Chances are, with a little research, we can always find a better rate and more savings.

a break from shopping

Posted by clair on , finance & money,

I’ve done so much shopping in the past few weeks that I’m ready to retire from shopping. Me? Seriously. Don’t talk to me about going to the mall or the grocery store.

My wallet is empty right now and I think I busted my credit card. So I’m going to try to recuperate financially and the only thing I want to think about right now is how to save enough to buy gold bullion.

Me? Seriously. Not by a long shot. I know. But I can still work towards it and save a few pennies a day, right? I hear that everyone’s watching the gold because gold is on the move and might reach its highest yet.. in days or weeks to come.

planning for your golden years

Posted by clair on , finance & money,

Are you looking for information on financing your retirement? Well, it’s never too early to start looking in the direction of Annuities.

I’ve recently come across a useful site, FreeAnnuityRates.com, that features well over 150 articles, a custom suite of annuity calculators to help you evaluate Annuity Rates and returns, a retirement blog, and ratings for a host of major insurance companies.

researching ways to beat rising prices

Posted by clair on , events, finance & money,

2010 is finally here and there are good wishes being passed all around. I was out watching the fireworks last night with the kids and only got into bed after 2am. We woke up after 11am this morning still groggy from lack of sleep.

So what are your wishes for the new year? Did you wake up to loose diamonds sprinkled at your door? That would be nice, wouldn’t it? Instead I read in the papers that the prices of certain essential food items have gone up to day and I spent my morning researching ways to beat rising prices. Talk about a lousy way to start the new year. Duh!

such good service

Posted by clair on , finance & money, mixed bag,

I can’t believe how efficient insurance companies are these days. I got a call two days ago from my insurance company reminding me that my vehicle’s road tax is due soon and that I can renew my car insurance online.

Now that’s what I call service. But while a reminder really helps, sometimes they catch me at the wrong time like when I’m driving and I have to fish inside my handbag for my cell phone and that really irritates the heck out of me!

Okay, on second thought, I do appreciate the call. I wonder if they provide equally good service for the return of premium life insurance and general inquiries where people are likely to need more detailed assistance. If they do, then it’s great!

no going away anytime soon

Posted by clair on , finance & money, talk shop,

There seems to be lots of sales going on right now which is rather unusual for this time of year. It’s very tempting for a shopaholic like me. But then again, like many folks out there, I’m choosing to spend wisely since I have three school-going kids.

We haven’t gone away on vacation for quite a long time now. Much as we’d love to be taking a break from it all at some fancy New York City hotel, we just have to make an impression on the kids that there’s a time to be thrifty and there’s a time to splurge.

So yeah, I don’t mind spending on the sales around town but we definitely can’t be taking a vacation till the economic situation improves.
