buying groceries at two stores

Posted by clair on , food & drink, talk shop,

I shop at two grocery stores now. That’s one more than I’m used to. I used to buy everything from just this one store until I couldn’t stand how they were always overcharging me because they can’t seem to get the shelf prices to synchronize with the checkout prices.

It’s quite stressful to shop there because I have to keep a hawk’s eye on the prices as they flash across the cash register and then recheck the bill when I’m done paying. If I continue to allow myself to be ripped off there, even holding two jobs in philly area won’t be enough to see me through.

So I now shop at another grocery store where the prices are hardly ever wrong. I only go back to that other store to get what I can’t get here. Well, if they can’t get their act together, they’re just going to lose customers like me who are vigilant about checking before paying.

early groceries

Posted by clair on , food & drink, talk shop,

I’ve been making out my grocery list over the past few days. Yes, it does take me that long to jot it all down. Well, not all, I inadvertently will miss out some items that I really, desperately need. always! So sometimes I’m not sure I should even be making out a list in the first place  .

Anyhow I shop at 2 grocery stores, so I’m going to try and get an early start this week after I check up on the term life insurance quote I’ve been promising my friend. And off I go!

my attempt at a grocery list

Posted by clair on , food & drink,

Just got back from groceries. You would think that with the trouble I took being the good girl and drawing up my grocery list this week, I would not miss anything like I usually do.

I had ‘batteries’ on my list because I checked stock and found we’re running low and our wireless mouses seem to eat up batteries pretty quick. Well, guess what? I forgot to buy batteries. Yes, in spite of them being on my list and staring at me in the face  .

One more thing I forgot – that auto insurance quote I was supposed to pick up for my neighbor since she’s out of town. So there you have it. My attempt at a grocery list  .

no choice but to compare prices

Posted by clair on , food & drink, shopping places,

Visiting two grocery stores today means I get to compare prices, something which I don’t normally do for the sake of convenience. But if the price of food items is going to go up, I guess I have no choice.

True, I’m not buying industrial hand wheels so it’s not like it’s going to save me thousands. But if I can a little here and then, it’s eventually going to add up in the long term, right?

At the first store, I paid $4.20 for a pack of pasta. I bought 3 packs. At the second store, the same pasta was selling at $3.70. If I’d bought my 3 packs of pasta there, I’d have saved $1.50. See how quickly it adds up?

grocery store frustration

Posted by clair on , food & drink,

I went shopping at two grocery stores today. Usually I just go to one, grab everything and that’s it! But today, I decided to check out another grocery store because I’m very frustrated with my regular store.

Every week, I find at least one item that’s wrongly labeled. It’s not like I’m buying highly specialized industrial safety supplies . These are just your regular everyday grocery items, for crying out loud.

They place the price label of a non-promo item so close to the promo item that you think the non-promo item is on promo. So when I check the bill afterwards, I naturally think I’ve been wrongly charged. So I run back all the way up to Customer Service only to be told it’s correct and that I saw wrong  ! The way they label the products is meant to deceive, that’s all I can say!

sugar binge

Posted by clair on , food & drink,

While out doing my weekly groceries last weekend, I chanced upon a bakery having a 40% sale on all the goodies in store. What a pleasant surprise, seeing as how rarely we actually go on a sweet tooth binge like that.

So I ended up carting home a whole lot, and I mean a lot, of breads and cakes. It’s a good thing I don’t go on these sugar binges often otherwise I’d doing nothing but diet pill comparisons all year round, heh!

Right now, I think we’re about done with our sugar quota for the year. Or are we? Wait, there’s Thanksgiving and Christmas coming up. Duh  !
