self-taught

Posted by minutechaser on , health & beauty, talk shop,

I went shopping with a friend and realized just how much she loves shopping at the drugstore. Not only that, she can reel out what medication is good for what ailment. Yes, she definitely qualifies for a healthcare job even though she’s never actually taken a formal course in pharmacy or whatever. She says she reads a lot and has a family that’s obsessed about staying healthy. Hmm, I guess that’s it then?!

plenty to go around

Posted by minutechaser on , health & beauty,

While many can’t wait for the arrival of sunny days to their part of the world, I’m shuddering at the blazing heat we’re experiencing all year round. I don’t know if it’s the effect of global warming but I notice the seasonal lines between the hot season and the wet have blurred a lot in recent years.

The rainy season seems to have given way to days that are much too sunny. It’s scary when I think about going out in the sun too much that may require the need for an effective age spot remover! If anybody wants more sunshine where they’re at, come get it from us, we got plenty to go around  !

play it safe

Posted by clair on , health & beauty,

Late to the party again but I just heard about the yaz lawsuit. Yaz is an oral contraceptive that goes by several different names that’s being prescribed to teens as young as age 14 as an acne treatment. Well, apparently Yaz has some pretty serious side effects that can be harmful to your health. These have recently been highlighted in the media and challenged in the legal arena.

My thinking is always to play it safe. If I receive negative vibes about something, especially something that’s ingested, I would steer clear of it. After all, there are always other safer alternatives so why put yourself or your loved ones at risk.

Caked and dried

Posted by clair on , health & beauty,

Know why I don’t go to cosmetic warehouse sales? Actually it’s not hard to figure out. I had an experience once where I bought a whole bunch of lipstick, eye shadow, nail polish and blackhead treatment from a warehouse sale and went home happy that I came away with such a big stash of fabulous deals.

To my surprise, when I got home and started using the cosmetics that I’d bought, I discovered that quite a lot of them were unusable. They were either caked or dried or smelled funny. It seems that such sales may be to get rid of old stock but please, if the products are so old and clearly unusable, these companies should at least have the ethics to dump them all instead of selling them to unsuspecting customers like me.

The expert speaks, not!

Posted by clair on , health & beauty,

What’s the best acne treatment, a fellow mom asked me. Do I look like a beauty expert? Well, I guess I should be flattered she decided to ask me instead of some other person, or was it because I was the only person in the room? Truth is I don’t have a clue. I think each cream has its own benefits and it depends on how well it takes to a person’s skin, no?

big words on a cough mixture

Posted by clair on , health & beauty,

My kids and I are having a case of scratchy throats and dry coughs. We started out popping lots of vitamins like we usually do. But it’s not helping. So I went to the drugstore to get some Breacol or something that will hopefully chase this cough away.

The pharmacist heard us discussing which cough medicine to buy and she came over and recommended something from her shelf. Okay, when she started reading the contents and explaining what they do, she lost me!

Quite honestly, if she’s going on about anything that even remotely sounds like glucosamine hcl, it all sounds like Greek to me. If I understood a word of it, I’d be a pharmacist myself. So I read the box myself and it says the cough mixture should banish the phlegm, cough and runny nose. Well, that’s good enough for me  .
