for the pottery enthusiast

Posted by clair on , mixed bag,

I walk into stores, hotels or restaurants that display lovely works of art and I’m completely mesmerized. I love crafting, just that I don’t have time to do as much of it as I would like.

I’ve tried my hand at various crafts like t-shirt painting, jewelry making but never at pottery. I’ve been fascinated by pottery ever since I watched the movie “Ghost” where the character of Demi Moore was working with pottery wheel clay.

Pretty interesting! AMACO/Brent is a site I found that offers everything pottery-related, from lead-free pottery supplies and sculpting compounds to pottery classes to non-toxic clay suitable for Moms and playgroups.

Gosh, it’s like a whole treasure trove for the pottery enthusiast. It would make a really fun craft activity not just for adults but also a creative activity that doubtless kids would enjoy especially during long holiday breaks.

With the classes that AMACO/Brent offers, you can learn all about how to work those texturing tools to a fine art. I’m quite the klutz and I would definitely need all the help I can get when it comes to the different types of clays and tools. But it’s all very exciting to me and once I find time, I’m going to take a class.

re-gifting is not a bad thing

Posted by clair on , mixed bag, save the environment,

I’m not sure why some people feel so bad about regifting. I absolutely support the idea. I mean, if you get a gift you can’t use, what’s wrong with passing it along to someone who might have a better use for it? Provided the gift isn’t used, of course.

Considering the state of the economy and how tight budgets are the rule rather than the exception these days, I think people should understand it’s a means of debt consolidation also. Nothing wrong with that.

In fact, it makes perfect sense too especially since we’re talking about going green and finding ways to save the environment. Why throw a perfectly good thing away or just leave it to rot?

Recently I got a coffee maker from a friend as a thank-you gift. She’s so sweet and frankly I love the coffee maker. It’s just that I hardly ever make coffee. I prefer instant, lazy bones that I am.

So I re-wrapped the coffee maker and gave it to another friend for Christmas. Coffee freak that she is, she was thrilled at my thoughtfulness. See, it’s okay as long as the article hasn’t been used. With good friends, even if the article has been lightly used, it’s still okay.

such good service

Posted by clair on , finance & money, mixed bag,

I can’t believe how efficient insurance companies are these days. I got a call two days ago from my insurance company reminding me that my vehicle’s road tax is due soon and that I can renew my car insurance online.

Now that’s what I call service. But while a reminder really helps, sometimes they catch me at the wrong time like when I’m driving and I have to fish inside my handbag for my cell phone and that really irritates the heck out of me!

Okay, on second thought, I do appreciate the call. I wonder if they provide equally good service for the return of premium life insurance and general inquiries where people are likely to need more detailed assistance. If they do, then it’s great!

staying home more

Posted by clair on , mixed bag,

Well, the fifteen days of Chinese New Year are almost over, next Monday, to be exact. We haven’t been going out much this year. It’s just our cost-cutting strategy to go out less and eat in more.

Well, since we’re home more often on the weekends, I’m thinking that maybe, just maybe I should start something interesting and productive like doing a Master’s at an online university perhaps?

I don’t know. It’s just a thought. It seems Capella University is where others have successfully graduated with their online degrees. On the other hand, I’m hesitating a little as I don’t want to start something that I’m going to be too busy to finish.

inspired to work

Posted by clair on , mixed bag,

Have you ever walked into an office which makes you feel claustrophobic because the desks are so piddly small and piled high with papers and binders and boxes?

Yikes, I was at the bank today and peeked into their back office. I couldn’t see anyone because .. well, they were all hidden behind the mile-high clutter on their office desks.

glass deskSheesh, I’d sure hate to work there. If office space is not an issue, I wouldn’t settle for anything less than one of these ultramodern office desks.

Can you just see me sitting at this glass desk and painting my nails, … er, I mean, getting some serious work done  ?

If you can convince your boss, I’d sure recommend you get one of these from JazzyExpo.com. I guarantee you’ll be so inspired to work you’ll be first in the office every morning   .

no pampering please

Posted by clair on , mixed bag,

I’m full of wonder for women who like to be pampered from head to toe. I’m pretty much the laughing stock amongst my girl friends because I’m someone who almost hates to be pampered (let me qualify that) by complete strangers.

This means I would not go to a spa, or whatever these places are called, to be rolled and scrubbed and processed, or what some might call, to be pampered. Not even if it’s free. Yikes! I wouldn’t touch those manicures and massages and hot tubs with a ten-foot pole.
