clueless salespeople

As I might’ve mentioned before, my oven’s dead. Has been for months now and I’ve been so busy I’ve pretty much shoved the shopping for it to the back seat. Okay, so whenever I’m at the appliance section, I will take a look around and note down the model numbers of the ovens I like. But that’s been pretty much it.

Quite honestly, when I come across words like inverter or a string of numbers like Symbol LS2208, I’m really clueless. Is it a new technology that makes the appliance more efficient or is it some obscure model number? I still need to get down and do my homework because they are so many models available these days.

Many times, finding a knowledgeable salesperson to explain these terms is not easy. Most of the salespeople these days know NOTHING about the products they’re selling. Which is very frustrating because they know less than I do, so how are they going to sell something to me that they can’t explain the benefits and features of  ??

early groceries

Posted in , food & drink, talk shop,

I’ve been making out my grocery list over the past few days. Yes, it does take me that long to jot it all down. Well, not all, I inadvertently will miss out some items that I really, desperately need. always! So sometimes I’m not sure I should even be making out a list in the first place  .

Anyhow I shop at 2 grocery stores, so I’m going to try and get an early start this week after I check up on the term life insurance quote I’ve been promising my friend. And off I go!

fashionable medical wear

Alright, first you have the medical professionals going high tech with pocket PCs and what not, and now it seems they’re into high fashion too. I met a cousin over the weekend who recently graduated as a doctor. Yes, she’s the bold and brainy among us!

She had a whole bunch of us mere minions gathered around her as she mesmerized us with stories of her course and now her new job. She showed us photos of her working her rounds and treating patients. Nothing unusual about that. But what really surprised us was that her koi uniforms are brightly colored in chic prints and quite frankly, if she hadn’t told us, none of us would ever have known she’s a doctor!

Yep, apparently, medical professionals have turned fashionable these days with their brightly colored koi scrubs. Even the koi scrub pants are just like what you would wear to lunch with a girl friend, not to a medical job!

It impressed the heck out of us. If you’re a medical professional, you should seriously check out the Scrubs and Beyond website which is where she and her colleagues order their unconventional attire which I dare say would brighten up anyone’s day!

no time for groceries

Posted in talk shop

I was so busy at a wedding this past weekend I barely had time to grocery-shop. I went in, grabbed stuff by the fistfuls and I was out of there. Needless to say, I missed several important items I had to have for this week’s school lunch menu. So I had to do an emergency grocery run last night, yes, Sunday night, duh!

for the pottery enthusiast

Posted in , mixed bag,

I walk into stores, hotels or restaurants that display lovely works of art and I’m completely mesmerized. I love crafting, just that I don’t have time to do as much of it as I would like.

I’ve tried my hand at various crafts like t-shirt painting, jewelry making but never at pottery. I’ve been fascinated by pottery ever since I watched the movie “Ghost” where the character of Demi Moore was working with pottery wheel clay.

Pretty interesting! AMACO/Brent is a site I found that offers everything pottery-related, from lead-free pottery supplies and sculpting compounds to pottery classes to non-toxic clay suitable for Moms and playgroups.

Gosh, it’s like a whole treasure trove for the pottery enthusiast. It would make a really fun craft activity not just for adults but also a creative activity that doubtless kids would enjoy especially during long holiday breaks.

With the classes that AMACO/Brent offers, you can learn all about how to work those texturing tools to a fine art. I’m quite the klutz and I would definitely need all the help I can get when it comes to the different types of clays and tools. But it’s all very exciting to me and once I find time, I’m going to take a class.

impressive lion dances

Posted in , events, talk shop,

We managed to catch the last lion dance performance last weekend before they wrap up for this Chinese New Year. It was really neat to see lively lions leaping at great heights to the fiesty beat of drums.

I’m very impressed at the skills of the lion dance performance. The lion head is very heavy and it’s not easy to balance on high poles. I mean, what do these guys eat to be that good??! Or are they fitted with Mopar performance parts that make them so fearless when leaping about at such heights?
