Playstation 3 is here…finally!

Posted by clair on talk shop

Two years after the Playstation 3 was first launched in the US and Japan, it’s finally arrived at our shores. More surprisingly, they managed to build up a bit of hype surrounding the launch here at 1 Utama last Saturday.

Apparently some folks had been camping outside 1 Utama two nights ahead of the launch. I don’t envy them sleeping on the cold hard floor at the mercy of the mosquitoes.

As it turned out, Saturday itself wasn’t too hot a day though the launch area was very smoky as the crowd started building up when the mall opened at 10am.

As always, no launch of big boys’ toys is ever complete without the scantily-clad promoters standing helplessly around. Sadly they don’t often succeed in prettying up the place.

a dollar for 10 minutes’ parking!!

Posted by clair on shopping places, talk shop

I had to drop Steev off at 1 Utama today to meet his friends for a movie. Since we were there early and we weren’t sure if we could get any tickets, seeing that it’s the school holidays and all, I thought I’d pop up to GSC with him.

I just wanted to step out of my car for like 5 minutes to run up to GSC with Steev. The guard told me I could park across the street near the park. Great! But the minute I got out of my car, he motioned me to get back in and stay there. Huh??

Obviously since he’s a Nepalese guard, we had major communications problems. So where can I park for just 5 minutes? I mean, gimme a break, even Ikano has a couple of parking spots outside where the guard lets you park for 5 minutes!!

He pointed to the basement parking but I said I’m not going to pay a dollar just to park for 5 minutes. He said the first 30 minutes is free.

Oh okay, I thought, that’s fair though in the back of my mind, I seriously doubted 1 Utama would be that generous!! No choice, I had to go to basement parking, rushed up to GSC and was at the ticketing machine in 10 minutes expecting not to have to pay anything!

My hunch was right! There is NO free 30 minutes. The darned machine charged me a dollar for 10 minutes parking. Dang it!!! Well, if you’re going to charge for every single darned thing, at least train your staff so they can give accurate information, dang it!

final weekend of Fashion On 1 Spring/Summer Collection

Posted by clair on events, fashion & style

Yep, we were at the fashion shows at 1 Utama again last weekend. Not the entire weekend, we do have a life, you know. So in order to have some photos to shoot and something to blog about, we were there early to get front row seats.

But knowing the weekend shopping frenzy, you know there’ll be hordes of people ahead of us, right? At any rate, we caught the show featuring Tropicana Life’s casual wear. I thought we were done with the jungle military look but I guess it’s still very much the trend.

And the fact that many of the models had “brass buckles hanging from my neck and my chain” probably means that these cool accessories are here to stay. Raine asked to buy some chains a while back and I told her they were out of fashion. I could’ve been wrong??? but I’m never wrong  .

first weekend of Fashion On 1 Spring/Summer Collection

The fashion shows at Fashion On 1 at One Utama are still on right now. I think they end this weekend so there’s still time to catch a couple of them if you happen to be out shopping.

I managed to catch a few shows last weekend. This was the DKNY Jeans show (below) which coincided with the opening of their new store on the ground floor of One Utama.

As you can see, all the models were clad in red or had some article of red on them, it probably has to do with red being an auspicious color for their store’s opening.

Promod’s collection (below) featured heavily on scarves, as you can see. Considering our very hot weather, and the fact that many shopping malls are turning down their air-cons to save cost, a scarf is the last thing I need, quite frankly.

It looks like pantaloon (or what I call balloon) pants are making a comeback. They look great if you have the right kind of legs, long, slim ones, that is. Don’t try them on thunder thighs because they’ll end up looking even more thunderous  .

fashion gala at Fashion On 1

Posted by clair on , events, fashion & style, shopping places,

Fashion On 1 kicks off at 1 Utama tonight with the Fashion Gala, an invitation-only event. Frankly I’m not sure what invitation-only means because the event will be held in an open area at the Oval on the lower ground floor.

So the show will still be visible from the balconies on the upper floors. I can only imagine that invited guests will enjoy the comfort of something similar to home theater seating while everyone else will have to stand. We’ll have to see how it goes tonight.
